Melford Allan C. Lazarte, APRN
Melford Lazarte was born in the Philippines. In hopes to achieve a better life, his family of eight moved to Maui in early 2000. He continued his secondary school at Lahainaluna High School where he graduated in 2005 as a Summa Cum Laude, top four of his graduating class.
His undergraduate was split between Washington State University and University of Hawaii Maui College. He was a Resident Advisor and a member of the Honors College at WSU. When his father was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2007, Melford decided to come back to Maui to help his family. His father passed away a year after, but that motivated Melford even more to achieve the family ambition of having a nurse. Melford worked part-time as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Hale Makua while a full-time nursing student at UH-MC. He graduated with his Associates Degree in Nursing in 2010. Before graduation, he completed a preceptorship in the Operating Room that landed him a job as a Registered Nurse later on. Once again, he worked full-time and went back to school full-time for his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which he was awarded in 2012.
In 2013, he achieved his designation as a Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR). He delved into various surgical specialties like, but not limited to, neurology, orthopedic, urology, OB/GYN, ENT, podiatry, and general surgery. His predominant specialty was cardiothoracic and vascular. His overall surgical experience enabled him to work under pressure, even in trauma, during rigorous emergency on-call schedule.
He juggled the same full-time work schedule while in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program from 2015 until he graduated in February of this year. He successfully obtained dual board certification as an NP. He was then awarded AGACNP-BC and ACNPC-AG through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, respectively.
He is going back for his Doctor of Nursing Practice this coming Fall while working as an NP. He plans to continue in this unselfish work and dedication to medicine starting at Lyons Care Associates.
"I have always felt that I could do more for my patients. Now as an NP, I have an opportunity to build onto my current training and experience. And I like to push myself in learning a little more each day so that I can be better equipped in my practice with colleagues." ~ Melford
